Found a perfect mid-century chair, then the leg snapped on the walk home
I spotted this cool wooden chair on a curb in the East Village last Tuesday. I mean, it looked solid, so I picked it up. About two blocks from my place, one of the back legs just cracked right off. I had to carry it the rest of the way with it leaning on me. Has anyone else had a great find break on them? What's the best way to fix a chair leg?

Honestly, it's just a chair leg. A little wood glue and a clamp will fix that right up. People act like a snapped spindle is a major life crisis. It's free curb furniture, not a museum piece. Worst case, you prop it in a corner and tell people it's "character.

the_david said "it's just a chair leg" and honestly i used to think the same way. i used to be all "just glue it, who cares" until i tried fixing a thrifted table leg with wood glue and it collapsed AGAIN three weeks later. it's not always that simple, especially if the break is clean or there's hidden rot inside the wood. for your chair, i'd check if the other legs are wobbling or if the crack runs deep before going straight to glue. sometimes you need to drill a dowel in there or even replace the leg entirely if it's too far gone.
