That statistic about how many security cameras are actually monitored surprised me
I was reading an article from a security trade journal last week and it said something like 95% of camera feeds are never watched in real time. It makes me wonder if any of the creepy videos people post here could have been stopped if someone was actually paying attention.

Yeah that "95% of feeds are never watched" thing really got me too. It makes all those cameras feel like a waste honestly. Like what's the point of having a million security cameras if nobody is actually looking at them. I bet most of those viral weird videos we see here could have been caught way earlier if someone was just paying attention. But I guess companies just install them for insurance reasons or to cover their butts if something goes wrong. Still feels like a lot of fake security if you ask me.

Right, 95% of feeds never watched and the other 5% is probably some security guard eating a sandwich and watching Netflix on their phone. Honestly, it's like putting a scarecrow in a field and hoping the crows don't notice it doesn't have a pulse. The whole setup is more about checking a box for the insurance adjuster than actually catching anything. Like, if nobody is watching, its just a very expensive, very boring YouTube channel nobody subscribed to.
