Question about that 'lost' 1997 album 'Mouthful of Wasps' by Splint

I finally tracked down a copy after 6 months and it's just... aggressively fine, which somehow feels worse than it being bad. Has anyone else been let down by an album you hunted forever?

Found a rare bootleg once that just made me miss the studio version.

Just made me miss the studio version" - yeah that hits HARD. What was it about the bootleg that was so off? Was it the sound quality, or did they do something weird with the arrangement that just didn't work? I've heard bootlegs where the band is clearly having fun but the recording is so rough you can't tell what song they're even playing. Makes you wonder if some stuff is better left in the vault, you know?

Had that happen with a live recording of my favorite band. The mix was just a muddy mess, couldn't hear the guitar line at all. Went straight back to the album version and it was like cleaning my ears. Sometimes the raw take just doesn't capture what made the song special.
