Found a 1998 album in a thrift store that changed how I see local scenes
I picked up a CD called 'The Blue Hour' by a band called The Cloverfield Effect for a dollar at a Goodwill in Akron. It's a solid indie rock record from 1998 that sounds like it was recorded in a garage, but you can tell they were really trying. Before streaming, a band like this might have sold a few hundred copies locally and just vanished. Now, I can't find anything about them online except one old fan forum post. What's the most obscure local band album you've found that left no digital trace?

What did the fan forum post say?

The drummer from Sticky Fingers actually ended up managing a Pizza Hut in Wilmington until 2019. I only know this because I found a 2004 interview with him on a now-dead blog where he complained about the dough recipe changing.

Oh man, that's a cool find. I had a similar thing with a cassette from a 90s Philly punk band called Sticky Fingers, not the Stones one. Total dead end online. What worked for me was scanning the liner notes and searching every name listed, the producer, the studio, anything. Found the drummer on an old Geocities site for his current band and sent an email. He was shocked anyone remembered.
