I think everyone is wrong about using floral foam for big centerpieces

I had a wedding order for a huge, low centerpiece and the foam kept falling apart. I tried using a block of wet oasis inside a chicken wire cage instead, and it held perfectly for three days. Has anyone else found a better way to handle large, heavy designs?

Have you tried soaking the oasis block in a bucket with a little floral preservative mixed in? I found that makes it hold water way longer, so the whole structure stays heavier and more stable. It's a game changer for those wide, low pieces that need to last.
