I finally figured out a way to keep hydrangeas from wilting in arrangements
Had a wedding order last month where the bride wanted blue hydrangeas as the main flower. I was stressed because they always droop on me after a day. My usual soak in water wasn't cutting it. I read online to try dipping the stems in alum powder, the kind you get in the spice aisle. I gave each stem a quick dip right after cutting and before putting them in the bucket. They stayed perky for the whole three-day event, no joke. Has anyone else tried this, or do you have a different trick for thirsty flowers?

Always thought that was an old wives' tale, but maybe I was wrong.

So the spice aisle is just full of flower magic now.

Is "flower magic" really that different from any other dried plant we've been cooking with for centuries?
