Had a chat with an old school florist at the farmer's market...
Ran into this woman who's been arranging for 40 years and she told me I was wasting time stripping every thorn off roses. She said just snip the tip and let the rest go. Tried it on 6 dozen stems for a wedding order this weekend and saved myself almost an hour. Any of you old timers do it that way too?

Oh, I read something similar in an old gardening book from the 1970s. The author swore that leaving a few lower thorns actually helps keep the stems stable in the vase, so you're not just saving time but also getting better structure.

Gotta push back on this one a bit. Those thorns can tear up a bride's bouquet or scratch someone's hand during a ceremony, so I still strip them low on the stem. A couple snags on a wedding day and that time you saved feels like a bad trade.
