Warning: I spent years ignoring a simple trick for tile spacing.

So, I've been putting down tile for a long time, and I always just guessed the spacing. Last week, a job had a laser level sitting there. I decided to try it out for setting the tiles, and everything lined up perfect. It was so obvious, but I never bothered before. Now I think about all the uneven grout lines I've had to fix over the years. A small tool can save you a lot of trouble. I guess sometimes you miss the simple stuff right in front of you.

What other simple tools do you think we overlook, like @tylerw72 said about making things harder? I bet there are a ton of basic things in different jobs that feel like a secret once you finally try them.
