Noticed a big shift in how kitchens are laid out here in Phoenix over the last 5 years
I do mostly kitchen flooring and I've seen a real change. Around 2020, almost every remodel had that big island with the sink in it. Now I'm pulling up tile in houses where the sink is back on the perimeter wall and the island is just for seating. A designer told me it's because people want more counter space for prep and less cleaning up in the middle of the room. Has anyone else seen this trend in their area or am I just getting weird jobs?

Gotta love when people hedge their bets with two sinks though, right @schmidt.grant? That's the kitchen equivalent of wearing a belt and suspenders. Saw a job last month where the island had a sink AND a cooktop, and I was like "is this a kitchen or a surgical theater?" At least with the sink back on the wall you're not constantly wiping water all over the middle of the room. Wonder if the double sink trend is gonna be the next big thing or just a weird phase.

Funny timing, just saw a house that had both-island sink and a prep sink on the wall.
