A customer in Boise asked me to save the old floorboards from her kitchen demo

We were tearing out this 70s linoleum job, and she pointed at the subfloor. She said, "My grandpa laid those boards in 1962." I spent an extra hour carefully pulling them up without splitting. She took a few pieces to make a picture frame. It was just a small thing, but it felt good to help save a bit of family history. Anyone ever had a homeowner ask you to save something unusual from a demo?

Honestly that's a nice change of pace. Usually they just want me to save the old asbestos tiles or a wasp nest. Once had a guy beg me to carefully remove a door frame covered in about six layers of lead paint because his dog scratched it as a puppy. Spent half a day on that for zero payback.

Oh man, that dog story hits home. I once spent a whole weekend trying to save a cracked sidewalk slab because my neighbor swore his kid's first steps were right there. It's still just a cracked slab, but hey, at least I got a weird sunburn pattern.
