Why does nobody talk about using a hair dryer on warped wooden table leaves?

My neighbor told me last month to heat the warped edge of my dining table leaf with a hair dryer for a minute then set a heavy book on it for a day, and it flattened right out after I had been fighting it for years with weights and moisture.

Tried this on a friend's warped cutting board and it worked like magic.

My neighbor actually told me the same trick a few years back when my old kitchen table leaf got all cupped from humidity. Worked way better than I expected, just heated the high spots for about a minute each and piled some heavy textbooks on it overnight. The leaf came out almost perfectly flat, though I did have to repeat the process once more for the stubborn edge. Definitely beats trying to clamp it down or mess with water and towels like I used to do.
