Vent: My neighbor in Springfield kept replacing his whole garage door opener when it was just a $2 gear

I saw him put out his third opener in two years, so I asked to look at the old one. The plastic gear inside the Chamberlain model had worn down, a common issue. I found the exact part online, showed him how to swap it, and now he's set. Has anyone else fixed something small that saved a big item from the trash?
