TIL I've been using wood glue totally wrong for years

Was fixing a broken chair leg in my garage last week and my neighbor Dave saw me clamping it dry. He told me I gotta wet both surfaces first with a damp rag before applying the glue. Apparently I've been making dry joints this whole time. Anyone else learn basic stuff way later than they should have?

Yeah, that "wet both surfaces" trick is a total game changer for wood glue.

It really does make the bond so much stronger. Do you use a brush or just a damp rag for that?
