That moment my coffee table collapsed under my laptop during a zoom meeting

I was sitting in my living room in Austin last Tuesday, trying to look professional on a work call, when my cheap particleboard coffee table just gave out under my laptop. The whole thing split right down the middle, sending my computer sliding onto the rug. I got off the call quick and realized the table was just held together with those little metal screws and glue. I dug around my garage and found some steel corner brackets I had from a previous project, plus some wood glue. I drilled pilot holes, clamped the pieces back together, and screwed those brackets into the underside. It's been sitting pretty for 3 days now and seems stronger than before. Has anyone else had a furniture collapse like that and saved it with hardware store brackets?

I've done almost the exact same fix on a cheap nightstand that gave out under a stack of books. Those steel corner brackets from the hardware aisle are worth keeping around for stuff like this.

Solid move saving it with brackets.
