Hit 50 pounds of stripped screws and bolts from old projects in my scrap bucket. That's a lot of failed fixes.

Remember my buddy tried to fix his deck with a bag of mismatched hardware from his garage. The whole thing wobbled so bad we had to redo it with new stuff. Sometimes you just gotta start fresh, you know?

Feel for you, that's a heavy bucket of regret right there. Wren_smith44's story about the deck is the perfect example of why that scrap pile grows. It's so tempting to reuse old hardware, but it almost always costs you more time later when things fail again. You end up doing the job twice, which is just the worst. Tossing those fifty pounds is basically buying yourself less hassle in the future.

Man, you're singing my song. I did the same thing last year patching a fence with old screws and brackets. Had to tear half of it down two months later when a storm rolled through. Learned my lesson the hard way, just like you said.
