Heard a contractor at the hardware store say 'a clean joint is a happy joint' while picking up some wood glue last week.

That little phrase finally clicked when I was fixing my wobbly bookshelf, and taking the extra minute to sand the old glue off completely made the new bond way stronger, so what's a simple tip that's saved your butt on a furniture repair?

Oh man, that's so true! I read once that for any wood repair, you should always make sure the clamping pressure is even. I was fixing a chair leg and just cranked down one side of the clamp, and it totally pulled the joint crooked. Using a second clamp opposite the first made everything square and the glue set perfectly.

Yeah the even pressure thing is good in theory. But honestly I've had way better luck with just one clamp and some light taps from a mallet to square it up before tightening. Two clamps can fight each other sometimes, makes a bigger mess.
