I swore off finance forums until a thread on remote gigs changed my mind
Honestly, seeing how others handle contract talks on there made me rethink my whole approach.

Reading through those contract discussions made me add a kill fee to my agreements. It protects both sides if a project goes south early. Now I wouldn't work without one.

Yeah, I read a piece about how a clear kill fee can actually stop fights before they start. It sets the rules up front so there's no surprise, unlike what valwest mentioned about halfway payments still leaving room for argument. Makes the whole "what if we stop" talk way easier.

Didn't kill fees seem like just asking for trouble before?

Kill fees sound good in theory but I've seen them cause more fights than they prevent. My last contract had a simple 50% payment at the halfway mark, which covered my costs if things ended early. Adding extra clauses just gives clients something to argue over later.
