Shoutout to the director who said my hero prop looked like a 'happy meal toy'

He said it right in front of the whole crew during a tech scout at the studio, and I spent the next 48 hours rebuilding it from scratch. Has anyone else had a prop get totally dismissed right before a shoot?

Troy996 saying it was an overreaction misses the point. On set, a director's public comment like that isn't just feedback, it's a kill order. If the boss says your prop looks cheap in front of everyone, you can't just slap new paint on it. That doubt is now in the DP's head, the producer's head. You rebuild so no one on set looks at it and thinks "happy meal toy" during the take. It's about killing that idea completely.

That "happy meal toy" comment sounds harsh, but was it really worth a full rebuild? Directors say stuff like that to get a reaction sometimes. Maybe it just needed a quick paint touch-up, not a whole new prop. Seems like an overreaction to one offhand remark.
