PSA: My cheap foam prop idea was a total disaster
I used to think spray painting craft foam was a smart way to save cash on armor pieces. That changed when our lead actor's chest plate cracked in half during a fight scene. The paint made the foam brittle and it just snapped. We lost a whole day reshooting because of it. Never skimp on materials for anything that needs to move.

Honestly that reminds me of a friend who used regular craft glue on a foam helmet for a summer parade. The thing got all soft and droopy in the sun, totally lost its shape. It looked like a sad candle after an hour in the heat. They learned the hard way that some materials just can't handle certain conditions. It's a real bummer when something you put time into falls apart because of one wrong choice. Makes you double check everything for the next project.

@wrenstone, tbh, I see glue fails as part of the fun in crafting.

Totally agree that messing up teaches you more than getting it right. That foam helmet story is a perfect example. You learn what not to do, and it sticks with you for every project after. Makes you actually understand why certain materials or glues exist. The fails force you to solve problems you didn't even see coming. Honestly, that weird knowledge from things going wrong is the most useful stuff you'll ever know.
