Warning: my kombucha scoby looked like a science experiment gone wrong
I was listening to a podcast about fermentation in Asheville, and the host mentioned that a healthy scoby can sometimes get dark yeast spots, which is normal. I checked mine and it had a bunch of those spots, so I almost threw the whole batch out, lol. Turns out it was fine, and the kombucha tasted great after 10 days. Has anyone else had a scoby that looked kinda scary but was actually okay?

Honestly, that "looked kinda scary" part is where I'd still toss it.

Dark yeast spots being "healthy" sounds like a college kid's excuse for leaving the starter in the back of the fridge too long. I'll pass on the science experiment and just buy fresh bread from the store. My stomach doesn't need that kind of adventure.
