That job in Springfield with the 400 foot cedar fence line.

Ground was pure clay, like digging into concrete. My old post hole digger snapped clean in half on the third hole. Client kept asking if we could 'hurry it up' while we were soaked in mud. Anyone else ever have a dig that just broke you?

Broken tools and a pushy client is a bad day, but broken you? Come on. People dig foundations by hand in worse stuff every day. Was there a rock shelf or just thick clay? A snapped digger is a hardware store trip, not a life crisis.

Sounds like a normal Tuesday, honestly.

Man, my buddy had a dig like that. They hit a layer of hardpan under some gravel that was basically natural cement. Bent the teeth on a brand new auger, and the foreman just stood there shaking his head. They ended up bringing in a small excavator for what was supposed to be a simple deck job. Total budget killer.
