Saw a report that said vinyl fencing sales jumped 40% in the last five years
I was reading a trade report from the National Association of Home Builders the other day. It said vinyl fencing sales have gone up by 40% since 2019. That really surprised me because I still install a lot of wood and chain link. The report said it's mostly because of lower upkeep and the styles getting better. I guess people don't want to stain or paint as much anymore. Has anyone else seen this big of a shift in what customers are asking for?

Exactly what @nancyp65 said, people just don't want the extra work. That 40% number makes total sense to me now. I've had so many folks pick vinyl after they hear it won't rot or need paint every few years. The styles do look a lot more like real wood than they used to, so that helps. It's a clear choice for anyone who wants to put a fence in and forget about it.

It's been a mix for me. I still get wood requests, but yeah, more people are asking for vinyl upfront now. They really hate the idea of having to paint it later.

That's interesting about the styles looking more real now. What's the one thing people still complain about with vinyl, even after they pick it for the low upkeep? Like, do they ever say it looks too perfect or fake in certain light, or maybe it gets weird stains?
