Hot take: I think everyone's wrong about using a post driver for those tricky 8-foot cedar pickets in wet clay.
After a brutal week in Seattle rain, I switched to a hand auger for the holes and a 4-pound sledge to set the posts, which saved me from three snapped posts and a ton of backfilling.

Doubt it's that big of a deal honestly.

Totally get that. Wet clay is a nightmare for driving posts. Had a client with the same soil last fall. We ended up using a digging bar to break up the clay first, then a manual post hole digger. Packing gravel at the bottom for drainage made ALL the difference. Let the posts sit for a day before hanging any weight on them. It's slower but beats replacing snapped cedar.
