Why did nobody tell me I was sewing darts backwards for 2 years

I was working on a fitted blouse last month and kept getting weird puckers at the bust. My friend watched me pin a dart and said 'hey, you're doing the point the wrong way.' Turns out I had been starting from the wide end and sewing to the tip instead of the other way around. All those lumpy shirts I made in 2023 make so much sense now. I mean maybe it's just me but that feels like something they should cover in beginner patterns. Has anyone else had a basic sewing step click way later than it should have?

The amount of time I spent making my first tote bag with the seams all facing outwards is EMBARRASSING. My mom finally asked why all my seams were raw and I told her I thought that's just how bags looked. She sat me down and showed me how to press and flip in like 10 minutes. Two years of ragged edges down the drain.

Ragged edges down the drain" is a great way to put it. But honestly, raw seams can look intentional if you do them right, so maybe you were just ahead of the trend.
