Unpopular opinion: My dress design fell apart because I chose style over sturdy seams

I made a flowy summer dress with delicate French seams for a clean look, but they ripped at the stress points after one wash. Some designers think fragile seams add elegance, but I feel they compromise the garment's life. Others argue strong, hidden seams are better even if they're less pretty. What's your take on balancing looks with lasting wear?
