Rant: That time a tailor told me my dart placement was killing the fit
I was working on a structured blazer for a client in Austin and a local tailor stopped by my studio, said my bust darts were sitting almost an inch too low. She showed me how moving them up just 3/8 inch changed the whole silhouette instantly. Has anyone else had a small critique like that completely change how you pattern a garment?

My neighbor used to be a seamstress for this little theater company back in the 90s and she told me once that the biggest mistake people make is guessing where their natural waist actually sits. She said most people put darts or waistlines about an inch too low because they think it looks more flattering but it actually just makes everything sag. I tried moving my waist darts up on a dress I was messing around with and it honestly pulled the whole thing together way better than I expected. Makes you wonder how many other little details we just eyeball wrong without even realizing it.

Huh, I actually disagree - my waist is lower than I think it is.
