Question about how long pattern grading actually takes
I spent 5 hours last weekend trying to grade a simple dress pattern up just two sizes and I still messed up the armhole curve. I thought it would take maybe an hour tops since I've watched a bunch of tutorials. Turns out matching up the notches and keeping the proportions right is way harder than it looks on video. My test muslin came out with the sleeves pulling weird and the waistline sitting crooked. I ended up having to re-draw the whole thing from scratch using a different base block. Has anyone else found that grading takes them way longer than they expected or am I just missing some shortcut?

Consider that maybe you're overcomplicating grading when it's actually just basic math and careful tracing. A simple dress pattern shouldn't take more than an hour for two sizes if you're using a proper grade rule and measuring each point systematically. Those tutorials you watched might have skipped the boring parts, but the reality is that grading is just shifting points by fixed amounts based on your size chart, nothing more magical than that.

Did you account for your fabric's stretch when you picked your grade increments?
