PSA: Pattern grading for a plus size line took me 4 months longer than I planned

Honestly, when I started designing my first plus size collection for a local boutique in Portland, I thought grading the patterns would take maybe 2 weeks. It actually took me until May to nail the fit on a single pair of trousers, because the standard size charts just don't work for real bodies over a size 18. Tbh, has anyone else found that you have to basically redraft from scratch instead of just scaling up?

Yeah, I read somewhere that scaling up past a certain point just breaks the proportions.

Wait, are you telling me that scaling up actual proportions on something like a building or a bridge makes it just break apart? I thought engineering had figured all that out by now. Like, is that why we don't have skyscrapers made out of the same stuff as a two-story house? That seems like such a basic thing to mess up.
