My niece looked at my new dress and said it looked like a hospital gown

I was so proud of this linen shift dress I made, thinking the clean lines were modern. I showed it to my 10-year-old niece, and she just tilted her head and said, 'Aunt Val, it looks like what my doctor wears.' That one comment made me see the stark, boxy shape completely differently. I went back and added a wide, contrasting sash belt and some patch pockets with a curved flap to break up the front. Has anyone else had a kid give them surprisingly useful fashion advice?

Kids are brutally honest like that, but sometimes it's exactly what you need. I mean, my nephew once told me my favorite jacket made me look like a park ranger, and he was totally right. You fixed it perfectly by adding those details to break up the shape.

Kids have that filter-free thing going on, but man, it can really sting. A park ranger jacket sounds kinda cool, actually.
