I finally stopped designing for trends and started designing for my own body type
For years I tried to make boxy oversized tops work because that's what everyone was posting on Pinterest and Instagram. But I'm 5'2 with a short torso and those silhouettes just made me look like a kid wearing my dad's clothes. Around 6 months ago I had this moment at a thrift store in Portland where I tried on a vintage 80s blazer that actually fit my shoulders and waist, and it clicked. Now I draft all my patterns to nip in at the natural waist and keep proportions closer to 7/8 length. It feels counter to what the fashion influencers push but I actually wear what I make now instead of letting it sit in a drawer. Has anyone else ditched the trending silhouette completely for what actually flatters their frame?

Bought a trendy oversized denim jacket and my wife asked if I was cosplaying a potato.

Ha! Your wife nailed it though. Oversized denim is tricky. It's easy to slip from "intentionally baggy" straight into "I'm wearing a pillowcase." I think the key is in the shoulder fit. If the shoulder seam hangs way past your actual shoulder, you're a potato. Get that right and you're just stylish.
