Warning: The new show horse barn in Lexington has a concrete aisle that's way too slick.
Saw a horse slip and nearly go down while I was there last Thursday, and the owner said it's been a problem since they poured it. What's the best non-slip additive you guys have used for a situation like that?

Honestly, calling the aisle "way too slick" feels like a bit of an overreaction. Every new concrete pour is slick at first until it gets worn in and dirty. My barn had the same panic when we did ours, but after a few weeks of regular use and some bedding dust, it was fine. Throwing down an additive right away seems like a rushed fix for a problem that might just solve itself.

I used to agree that new concrete just needs time, but we had a bad fall at our place that changed my mind. The vet bills were no joke. We ended up mixing a coarse silica sand into a sealant and rolling it on, which worked way better than just waiting. The texture is rough like sandpaper now and the horses are way more sure-footed.
