That time a stud finder in Denver showed me I was wrong about hoof angles
I was at a clinic put on by the local horseshoeing association in Denver last month, and the presenter pulled out a digital level to check a hoof trim I thought was dead on. Turns out I was off by 4 degrees on the front hooves, which surprised me because I've been going by feel for like 8 years. Has anyone else switched to using digital tools for setting angles, or is that overkill for most shoeing jobs?

I was totally one of those "feel is all you need" guys for years, thought digital tools were just a gimmick. Then a buddy let me borrow his level at a clinic and I realized my eye was nearly 5 degrees off on a hind foot. Kinda humbling but now I always check before I pull the rasp out.

Hah, you're a better man than me for admitting it. My eye's probably been off by a solid ten degrees for years and the horses just tolerated my bad work. Now I carry a level in my apron next to the hoof knife, looks ridiculous but at least I'm not freehanding disaster anymore.
