Spent a whole morning on a quarter crack that looked simple

Had a client's horse in Salem with a small quarter crack on the left hind. Figured it would be a quick patch job, maybe an hour. Ended up taking nearly 4 hours because the crack went way deeper than it looked and I had to do a full bar shoe with a plate. Anyone else had a crack that fooled them like that?

Ever had one where the crack was basically just the tip of the iceberg? Those hidden ones are the worst because you think you're set up for a quick fix and then your whole afternoon is gone. Makes you second-guess every simple-looking job now.

Quick fix turns into an all-day thing" yeah that's the worst. Happened to me once with a crack that looked like a tiny surface line and next thing I knew the whole hoof wall was coming apart in chunks. @the_vera is right, it really messes with your head when you take on simple stuff now.
