I finally went through my grandpa's farrier kit. The old methods seem slower but more thoughtful. Am I just being sentimental?

Ever notice how now we rush everything instead of taking real care?

Wow, my buddy Dave found his great-uncle's farrier stuff in a barn. He showed me this one old rasp, thing weighed a ton and the handles were worn smooth. He said using it just once made him realize how much slower, yeah, but also how much more careful you had to be back then. Totally changed how he sees his own work now.

That line about the handle being worn smooth got me lol. "Taking real care" back then probably just meant your arms were too tired from lifting heavy tools to rush. Grandpa wasn't being thoughtful, he was just moving slow so he didn't throw his back out.
