A trainer in Lexington told me my toe clips were too long for the horse's breakover, and now I measure from the apex of the frog every time.
After he pointed out I was adding almost a quarter inch of unnecessary leverage, I switched from eyeballing it to always using a ruler, and the difference in the horse's gait was immediate.

That's such a good example of how tiny details have huge effects. We get used to our own way of doing things and miss the obvious fix. It makes me double-check all my own little routines now.

You're right about getting stuck in routines. I spent years putting my keys in a bowl by the door, always losing them in the bottom. Moving them to a single hook right above it changed everything. It's funny how the smallest shift can save you so much daily hassle.
