PSA: I was cleaning my extraction tool wrong for MONTHS

I was wiping the metal loop with an alcohol wipe after each client, thinking that was enough. Last week, a regular mentioned her pores looked more clogged after her last facial with me, which was a huge red flag. I took the whole tool apart for the first time and found gunk built up INSIDE the handle piece, near the spring. I had no idea it could even come apart that far. Has anyone else had a client point out a problem that led to a major equipment cleaning change?

My old extraction tool probably had its own little ecosystem living in the handle. I was doing the same thing, just wiping the loop, until a client asked if I was using a new pressure technique because her skin felt rougher. Turns out I was just pushing old gunk back into her pores. I felt so gross when I finally unscrewed the end cap and saw the buildup. It’s one of those things you don’t think about until someone points it out, and then you can’t unsee it. I’m just glad she said something instead of quietly never booking again.
