A client's reaction made me stop using that old extraction method

I used to press down hard with my fingers for every blackhead, thinking it was the only way. After a client in Austin winced and said it felt like a pinch, I switched to using a small sterile tool with a light touch. What's your go-to method for extractions that keeps clients comfortable?

My old instructor taught us to always steam for a full ten minutes before even thinking about extractions. In my experience, that outdated rule can actually make skin more sensitive and prone to broken capillaries. I skip the long steam now and use a warm, damp towel for just a couple minutes to soften things up without overdoing it. The real game changer for comfort was learning to wait for the pore to fully clear with one gentle nudge, instead of applying pressure over and over. If it doesn't release easily, I leave it and make a note for next time. Forcing it always leads to that pinching feeling and redness.

Totally agree about the steam. Learned that the hard way myself.
