A client's mom gave me a note after her first facial that I keep on my mirror
I had a teen client last month who was really nervous about her acne. Her mom booked the facial and waited in the lobby. After the 60 minute service, the girl was so much more relaxed and happy. When they left, the mom came back in alone and handed me a folded piece of paper. It just said 'Thank you for making my daughter feel seen.' I wasn't expecting that at all, it really got me. Has a small moment like that ever stuck with you guys?

Ever think about how that note is proof you did more than just a service? You fixed a feeling, not just skin. That mom saw you treat her kid's worry with real care, not just products. Those little papers mean more than any tip.

But what happens when you don't get the note... does that mean you failed? Sometimes the worry is still there, they just don't say it. Makes you wonder how many quiet fixes we miss because no one wrote it down.

@amy858 makes a good point here. Those quiet fixes are probably happening all the time, not just when someone writes a note. If we start putting all our worth on thank you notes, we might miss the real point. People leave happy without saying a word. That mom might have just been having a good day or felt like writing something nice, not because you did anything special. It's risky to think a scrap of paper means you saved someone's emotional state. Maybe the kid was still scared and she just wanted to be polite. Basing your whole job satisfaction on a note feels like setting yourself up for disappointment.
