Vent: Had to pick between a new hoist rope or a full sheave replacement on a 15-year-old Otis unit.
Went with the rope to save the client money, but now the old sheave is chewing it up after just 3 months. Anyone got a good source for a 10-inch traction sheave that won't cost an arm and a leg?

Honestly, saving the client money was the wrong move here. A fifteen year old sheave is way past its prime and was always going to wreck new rope. That short term fix just cost more in the long run with a second service call and another rope. Sometimes the more expensive repair is actually the cheaper one, you know? You just kicked the problem down the road and now the client is worse off.

That's a tough spot to be in though. The client might have had a strict budget that week, maybe for a medical bill or car repair. Telling them to spend more could have meant no fix at all, leaving them with a broken system. Sometimes a band-aid solution that keeps things running is the only real choice people have. Ever had to make a call like that when the money just wasn't there?
