Update: I swapped the governor rope on a 15 story lift and the car started moving during the test.

I was working on a 1990s Otis unit in an office building downtown last Thursday. After I put the new rope on and reset the governor, I hit the test button and the car dropped about two inches before the safety caught. My lead said the old rope might have stretched and thrown off the calibration. Has anyone else had a governor test go sideways right after a rope change?

Did your heart drop faster than the car did?

Ever have one of those days where everything seems fine until the test button proves it's not? @fisher.diana nailed that feeling. I had a similar scare on a Dover unit where the car just kept creeping down for what felt like forever before the safeties finally grabbed. Turns out the sheave was worn just enough to mess with the rope seating after a fresh install. Makes you double-check every step twice.
