Question about part salvaging after seeing repair methods overseas

I hear many repairers insist on only using brand new components, but I don't agree after a recent journey to Seoul. There, I saw technicians regularly pull working parts from discarded gadgets (you know, like old DVD players) to fix modern devices. They revived a gaming console by swapping in a resistor from a broken microwave, and it ran without issues. This approach cuts costs and is better for the environment, which matters a lot to me. While some worry about reliability, careful testing of salvaged parts can make them just as good. We might be missing out by always buying new. Giving this a shot more often could help our trade and wallets.

Forget the savings, it forces you to really learn how circuits work.

Yeah, that "forces you to learn" part is what my old shop teacher always said.
