Had a customer bring in a 1995 Sony CRT he found in his attic last month
Guy walks in with this old Trinitron, says he wants me to recap it because it's his kid's first console setup. He was super chill about the whole thing, even brought a six pack of soda for my trouble. Opened it up and it had the original caps still in there, but only one was bulging near the flyback. Got it running again for $45 parts and labor, and he sent me a pic later of his kid playing Sonic on it. Anyone else get random nostalgia jobs like this that make your day?

Haha no kidding, I once spent an hour fixing a VCR just to find out it only played one copy of Home Alone 2.

Is it just me or is it always the random attic finds that end up being the best stories? I swear every time someone brings in something they forgot they had, it works out way better than the stuff people actually paid good money for back in the day. Like my neighbor found a box of old Game Boy games in his garage last summer and half of them still had saves from 1998. It's wild how stuff we used to take for granted becomes this little time capsule. Your story with the Trinitron is exactly the kind of thing that reminds me why I still mess with old tech, even when it's a pain.
