Wiring new construction vs. old work - which one actually takes longer?

I did a 3000sqft new build last month and a 1500sqft rewire this week. New build was faster by a mile but the old work paid way better. Any other sparkies think the hourly rate makes up for the headache of old work?

Old work pays better because you earn every penny of that headache.

Oh wow, ain't that the truth. You really do earn every single penny that comes with those old work headaches. I swear, half the time I'm just playing detective trying to figure out which screw they stripped last century. Makes you wonder if the "good pay" is actually hazard pay in disguise.
