That $600 home inspection course I bought was a complete waste
Spent $600 on a home inspection prep course thinking it would give me an edge for real estate. Turned out half the material was about furnaces and foundations, nothing about Edmonton's specific frost heave issues. Anyone else find a better resource for local building quirks?

Wait, half the course was about furnaces and foundations but didn't cover frost heave at all? That's kind of unbelievable for a course marketed to people in Edmonton... I mean frost heave is basically THE thing you need to know about up here. My buddy took a local workshop from the Home Inspectors Association of Alberta and said it went into detail about how our clay soil shifts with freezing and thawing. He paid like $200 for a weekend seminar and found it way more useful than those generic online courses. It seems like the big national programs just copy paste the same material for every province and don't bother with regional stuff.

Honestly @julia286, you nailed it, those big programs just copy paste generic stuff without any local know-how.
