My plumber buddy told me to run PEX instead of redoing copper in my 50s bungalow
I was about to drop $1200 on copper pipe to repipe my basement bathroom in Edmonton. My buddy who does service work for a living said just use PEX it's fine for residential. I was skeptical because my dad always swore by copper. But I went with his advice and ran PEX from the main line to the shower and vanity. Saved me probably $800 in material and the install took half a day instead of two. No leaks after 6 months. Has anyone else made the switch from copper to PEX and regretted it later?

Watched my neighbor spend three days sweating copper joints in his crawlspace then had a pinhole leak anyway a year later. That was enough to convince me PEX is the way to go for anything inside the walls. Plus if you ever need to run a new line later you just snake it through instead of cutting open the drywall again. Your buddy saved you a headache and the PEX will last just as long if not longer in that cold Edmonton basement.
