Contractor talked me into stained concrete floors, biggest regret of the whole reno

We had that old laminate that was peeling and I was set on tile for the basement. Our guy convinced us stained concrete would be cheaper and look modern. Eight months in and every little scratch shows, plus we have to be super careful with drop zones. Anyone else get talked into a trend that backfired in an Edmonton house?

Did your contractor warn you about the maintenance at all? My buddy got stained concrete in his garage turned game room and now he regrets it every time his kid drops a Hot Wheels. He said the stain started fading in spots where they walk a lot, and now it looks patchy like a bad dye job. They tried sealing it again but it never matched right and just made things worse. He told me he wishes he went with tile like his wife wanted from the start because at least you can replace a broken tile. Now he's stuck with a floor that needs constant babying and still looks beat up after two years.

Guess your buddy learned the hard way that stained concrete is more like a high maintenance houseplant than a floor. At least with a houseplant you can just throw it out when it looks terrible. Sounds like tile would have saved him a lot of Hot Wheels headaches and sealant regret.
