A contractor told me my basement subfloor plan was overkill

I was planning to put down 2 layers of plywood and ditra over my new concrete slab in Edmonton. He said just use a dimpled membrane and one layer of tongue and groove OSB, saved me about $400. Has anyone else had a contractor talk them out of overbuilding something?

Sounds like he's right, the extra plywood and ditra is way overkill for Edmonton.

Honestly, it's like people forget that over-engineering stuff is just throwing money and time into a hole for zero gain. I see this all the time at my buddy's shop, guys loading up a simple job with top-tier materials when the basic stuff would hold up fine for decades. You gotta match the fix to the problem, not just slap on the fanciest solution because the internet says so.
