Had a week where every TV character forgot how doors work
I was binge watching three different shows last week and every single one had someone barge into a room without knocking, then get surprised someone was there. In real life you'd get yelled at or locked out. But on TV nobody ever locks their door or says 'hold on' before entering. The worst one was a guy who opened a closet, found a body, and just stood there staring for 10 seconds instead of calling the cops. Anyone else notice how characters treat doors like they're optional?

Why don't people just shout 'occupied' before turning the knob?

That approach works in some situations, but it assumes the other person will hear you through a closed door. Real life is messier - people have headphones on, bathrooms have loud fans, or someone just zones out. Knocking first and waiting for a verbal response is just more reliable than shouting over background noise. Plus, a quick knock and pause lets the person inside answer without you having to guess if they heard you.
