Just realized I used to burn CDs for road trips and now I just stream everything
Back around 2005, I'd spend an hour picking songs and burning a CD for a drive to my cousin's place in Phoenix. Now I just plug my phone into the car and hit shuffle on a playlist. I miss the ritual of pulling out that little disc and seeing my bad handwriting on it. Does anyone else feel like we traded something good for convenience, or is it just me?

I read somewhere that the average person listens to like 40,000 songs a year now with streaming. That's crazy compared to the maybe 100 songs on my burned CDs. I remember naming my mixes stuff like "Road Trip 2004 Volume 2" on the disc with a Sharpie. The handwriting was always terrible because I was trying to do it in the car while we were already on the highway. Now I just plug in and zone out, no memory attached to any of it.

Gotta push back on that 40,000 number a bit, I think it's more like half that depending on who you ask. Still a HUGE jump from burning CDs in the car though. You're right that the old mixes had way more meaning than anything in a playlist today.
