Unpopular opinion: my landlord fixing the boiler in 4 hours was actually suspicious
Last January my heat went out on a Tuesday night in Milwaukee, and my landlord had a guy here by 8 AM the next morning. He even gave me a $50 credit on rent for the inconvenience without me asking. Honestly it freaked me out more than if he'd taken a week, because I kept wondering what he was trying to cover up or distract me from. Has anyone else had a landlord who was way too responsive and it made you paranoid?

Whoa wait, a $50 credit without you even asking? That is seriously weird. I'd be side-eyeing every corner of that apartment wondering what he's trying to make me not notice. Most landlords around here act like they're doing you a favor just by showing up a week later. Honestly sounds like he wanted you to be happy and distracted so you wouldn't look too close at something. What kind of shady stuff is he hiding behind that fast service?

Yeah I read something just the other day about a similar situation, @willow732, where the landlord offered a credit after the tenant found mold behind the baseboards. The guy had been patching it up with caulk and paint for years. A free $50 would definitely get my spidey senses tingling too, I'd be looking for hidden water damage or something worse.
